Instructions for Completing the Applications

  • Complete applicable application form, answering all questions. Failure to provide information or required documents may result in a delay in the processing of the application.
  • Applicants must submit acceptable documentation showing completion of a doctoral program in a field other than psychoanalysis, or the equivalent education or experience, prior to admission to training in research psychoanalysis.
  • Applicants must submit acceptable documentation showing current student status in, or graduation from:
    1. An approved psychoanalytic institution, or
    2. An institution which meets all of the criteria in the regulations. (It is the responsibility of the applicant to provide the Division with the documentation necessary to establish the equivalency of such institutions. Documentation may include Graduate Studies Bulletin, catalogues, or any other relevant materials.)
  • All applicants must arrange to be fingerprinted. Fingerprint impressions may be obtained at most Department of Motor Vehicles offices or local law enforcement agencies. Note: Live Scan is available for California applicants.
  • All applications must be signed in the presence of a Notary Public, who shall sign and certify the signature.
  • All applications need to include the $100 registration fee and $49 fingerprint processing fee ($149 total). Note: the registration fee is $100, except that if the registration will expire less than one year after its issuance, then the registration fee is reduced to $75.
  • All registrations expire and become invalid on the last day of February of each even-numbered year if not renewed. The biennial renewal fee is $50. You will receive a notice of expiration approximately three months prior to the expiration at your address of record. It is your responsibility to notify the Medical Board each time your address changes. In the event you do not receive a renewal notice, please contact the Medical Board. Failure to renew your registration prior to the expiration date shall result in assessment of a delinquency fee of $25 (pursuant to Business and Professions Code Section 163.5).
