 Scam Alert: Protect Yourself from Those Impersonating Board Staff

The Board reminds all licensees that the staff of the Medical Board of California (Board) will never contact you by telephone demanding a payment of any kind.

The Board continues to receive reports of fraud attempts where the caller states that they are a Board investigator, staff member, or other law enforcement official and warns the physician that their license is under investigation or suspended for nonpayment.

These scammers often use sophisticated callerID spoofing techniques which makes the call appear legitimate. Do not rely on the caller ID.

If you receive such a call, please do the following:

  • Hang up immediately.
  • Contact the Board at (800) 633-2322 to report the incident.
  • Notify your local law enforcement agency about the attempted scam.
  • Report the incident to the Federal Trade Commission.
