Notice to Consumers Regulation
California law requires polysomnography registrants to provide notice to each patient
they are registered and regulated by the Medical Board of California. The notice
must include the following statement and information:
NOTICE TO CONSUMERS
Medical doctors and polysomnographic technologists, technicians, and trainees are
licensed and regulated by the Medical Board of California
The notice can be provided by one of three methods:
- Prominently posting the notice in an area visible to patients on the premises where
the registrant provides the services for which registration is required. The notice
must be in at least 48-point type Arial font. Waiting rooms or patient-registration
rooms are possible locations for the signage.
- Including the notice in a written statement, signed and dated by the patient or
the patients representative and retained in that patients medical records, stating
the patient understands the polysomnographic registrant is registered and regulated
by the board.
- Including the notice in a statement on letterhead, discharge instructions, or other
document given to a patient or the patients representative, where the notice is
placed immediately above the signature line for the patient in at least 14-point
Although registrants are only required to provide notification in English, registrants are
encouraged to provide the notification in other languages as well if it will better
assist the patient population.
