There are several fees involved in the licensing process including the application fee, initial licensing fee, the mandatory Steven M. Thompson fee, and the voluntary Song-Brown Program fee.
If submitting your application through the BreEZe online system, you must pay the entire amount required for the application. Credit cards can be used through the BreEZe online system when submitting your initial application.
The application fee of $491 is non-refundable and includes the required fingerprint-processing fee, which is required to be submitted with the Application for a Physician's and Surgeon's License and the Application for a Postgraduate Training License (PTL). A review of your application can begin once this fee is received.
Initial License Fee
The license fee is required to be submitted with the Application to Transition from a Postgraduate Training License to a Physician’s and Surgeon’s License (PTL holders only) or once the Application for a Physician's and Surgeon's License is complete before a license can be issued. The initial licensing fee includes the mandatory fee of $25 for the Steven M. Thompson Loan Repayment Program.
The Initial License Fee of $808 is required from applicants that are not currently enrolled in an ACGME, RCPSC, or CFPC accredited program.
Note: If you are approved for a Military or Voluntary Service license status, the initial licensing fee will be waived; however, the mandatory Steven M. Thompson fee of $25 is required.
The Reduced License Fee of $416.50 is required from applicants that are currently enrolled in an ACGME, RCPSC, or CFPC accredited program. To verify your enrollment in accredited training, you will need to submit a Current Postgraduate Training Verification, Form CTV.
Song-Brown Program Fee
The Song-Brown Health Care Workforce Training Act (Song-Brown Program) was established to increase the number of family physicians to provide needed medical services to the underserved areas of California. You may voluntarily contribute any amount (minimum $25.00) with your application to the Song-Brown Program. The Board transfers all funds collected on a monthly basis to OSHPD. Visit the Office of Statewide Health Planning and Development (OSHPD) website for more information on the training program.
