Applying for a Research/Student Psychoanalyst Registration
- Ensure you meet the minimum requirements listed on the first page of the application package and use the Application Checklist to ensure you submit all required documents. After selecting the type of application, complete the application form, answering all questions. Failure to provide information or required documents may result in a delay in the processing of the application.
- Research Psychoanalyst applicants must submit acceptable documentation showing completion of a doctoral program in a field other than psychoanalysis, or the equivalent education or experience, prior to admission to training in research psychoanalysis.
- Student Research Psychoanalyst applicants must submit acceptable documentation showing current student status in, or graduation from:
- An approved psychoanalytic institution, or
- An institution which meets all of the criteria in the regulations. (It is the responsibility of the applicant to provide the Division with the documentation necessary to establish the equivalency of such institutions. Documentation may include Graduate Studies Bulletin, catalogues, or any other relevant materials.)
- All applications must be signed in the presence of a Notary Public, who shall sign and certify the signature. You must also include the $150 application processing fee and the $49 fingerprint processing fee (a total of $199). All applicants must arrange to be fingerprinted. Note: Live Scan is available for California applicants, if you reside outside of California, please request fingerprint cards from the licensing analyst.
- All registrations expire two years from the date of issuance. The biennial renewal fee is $75. You will receive a notice of expiration approximately three months prior to the expiration at your address of record. It is your responsibility to notify the Board each time your address changes. In the event you do not receive a renewal notice, please contact the Board. Failure to renew your registration prior to the expiration date shall result in assessment of a delinquency fee of $25 (Business and Professions Code Section 163.5).
